MasterTech Aircraft Maintenance is a CAA-approved, full-service aircraft maintenance facility located at Robertson Airport, owned and operated by Eric and Sue Cook.
Eric has over 40 years of experience in the industry and is a third generation aviator (read the family history section, it makes for a good read), so a career in aviation was destined. Eric qualified in Aeronautical Engineering at Air Service Training in Perth, Scotland in the early eighties. Since then he has gone on to work on a huge variety of aircraft ranging from crop sprayers in Malawi to HS 125s in Eritrea and B1900s in Sudan and a myriad of other aircraft and countries in between.
Sue got the aviation bug as a youngster too, her dad owned De Havilland Beaver float planes in Ontario, Canada, ferrying people and supplies in the fifties and sixties. Many years later, she has found her place here as the Quality Assurance and Safety Manager and runs the office attending to the (not so small amount) paperwork required in an aircraft maintenance organisation. As the old saying goes “The aircraft isn’t airworthy until the paperwork weighs the same as the aircraft”.
Akhona, Lionel and Rina are the helpers here and keep everything spic and span. Eric undertakes all aviation related work himself and loves nothing better than to take a pigs ear and turn it into a silk purse! A project ongoing for himself is a De Havilland Chipmunk which he hopes will be completed by the end of this year. Follow the progress on the Chippie section.
Another well-loved member of the family is Split Pin (so named because she was as skinny as a split pin when she arrived). Split Pin adopted us two years ago, she was a stray running around the airfield and on one particularly hot day with her tongue as long as her body, she came looking for water. The rest is history. Everyone loves this little dog and she gets lots of offers to move home!
We are not limited to routine maintenance and inspections; we perform comprehensive repairs and modifications. Our absolute love is vintage aviation though and we can (and do) undertake full restorations.
